In 1999, several agencies in South Dakota were concerned about the quality and consistency of homeownership education in the state. They began exploring options for providing the highest quality of homeownership education and how to better serve those who wanted such an education. The end result was the Homeownership Education Resource Organization, better known as H.E.R.O.

By networking between providers, increasing funding availability, and standardizing learning, the best possible homeownership education experience is being offered to South Dakota residents. It also ensures that every person in the state has the opportunity to use these quality resources.
